Limbo is like a Wes Anderson film without any of the whimsy but in a good way. It’s a serious film with lots of heavy themes but a few comedic moments sprinkled throughout. The cinematography was easily the highlight of the film. It looked fantastic and was a visual treat. The characters were good with Omar being the most interesting. The story was also pretty good but did drag at some points. It’s a slow film, but it works in its favor most of the time. There are just some moments where it doesn’t work in its favor. Another interesting element I thought that mostly worked for the film’s favor was how much distance it kept us from the characters. It makes us work to connect and feel the emotions of the characters and reminded me a lot of Le Samouraï. Sometimes though, it felt like it put too much distance. Some elements of the last act are a little bothersome to me but overall it’s still really solid. Overall, Limbo is a good film. It’s an engaging film with important themes and has its own visually striking style.

Wow just wow from the cinematography to the story it self I was blown away, was expecting an easy watch but this was really something else something like Wes Anderson on the cinematography aspect of things

LIMBO centers around refugees and the tragedy of their circumstances but in this well-framed, cinematic quality. It’s a deadpan comedic tale encompassed in scenic landscapes with all the dark, grey grit that often comes with films of complex themes, like migration; it’s not shrugged off or discounted. 

LIMBO has been in my watchlist ever since it’s release and I regret not having caught it sooner. There were two scenes in particular that I think really deserve props and should be studied in film schools — discovering Abedi and THE Nabil scene that implies Omar was too late (because of the appearance of the Northern Lights). 

I was so surprised to see the Sikh shopkeeper and was so taken by his gesture of kindness. Did not expect that at all. Maybe I have a bias.
