I really like these films. Theyre a bit cheesy but in the best way. Didn't care too much for the villain and I wish we had more of upstanding officer RoboCop cuz that was really fun.

This movie lost its novelty.

The first one one cheesy but also groundbreaking in some aspects. This one just feels like they didn't know what to do with the character and they just wanted to make more money.

My biggest issue is the overacting. The first movie had its few over the top performances but in this one it's all of them. The very unrealistic dialogue definitely doesn't help.

I also think they missed the mark with the costume and robot designs, especially with the last villian variant they introduce.

The only reason I'm giving it some credit is because still it has some sort of political commentary. And also it's still pretty badass.

RoboCop 2 directed by Irvin Kershner of Empire Strikes Back fame is definitley a film that is messier than the first, but definitley not without it's merit. It definitley suffers from it's satire not being as sharp as the first film, and the trope that hurts sequels the most undoing the character arc of the first film for plot convience. Like I said however there still is a ton of merit to RoboCop 2. While not all the satire is great, some of it definitley still works in this film, my personal favorite gag in the film is the Little League team robbing the electronics store. The action is also still incredibly solid, certainly a lot bigger than first and it's all the better for it. Tom Noonan for the amount of time he's on screen delivers a great performance as Cain, and hot take I enjoy Cain more than Clarence Boddicker from the first film. And the effects work here is still really on point, this was one of the last films before CGI really began taking over so RoboCop 2 still employs the use of animatronics and stop motion done by the excellent Phil Tippet and I would argue this is the best use of the both those now old-school techniques. It's not the best sequel, but certainly I think RoboCop 2 is still a pretty flawed film that's not nearly as clever as Verhoveen's classic, but this is still incredibly solid as an early 90's action film.
