An absolutely heart-wrenching adaptation of a classic from Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson. From the beautiful stop-motion to the tear-inducing script, the whole film is infused with del Toro's signature dark aesthetic that just works so well with this style of animation. The character designs were gorgeous, especially that of the Wood Sprite and Death, and the voice-acting was virtually perfect. I'm kinda mad at myself for not watching Pinocchio sooner, but it's amazing, and I'll be rewatching it a lot.

dare i say this is way much better than disney’s. i feel like the storyline is more complex and sad. the animation style makes it even more traumatizing lol 😭 people with daddy issues should watch this movie

literally BEAUTIFUL work. like the animation was so smooth and beautiful, the colors were stunning, the music was whimsical and fun. in a time where children's films are increasingly made for children, this film does not talk down to anyone, children or adults. i'm so little cricket author
