Kalank may be visually stunning, but it's let down very heavily by the weak writing and some of the cast members. Alia Bhatt was decent, as was Madhuri Dixit, but Varun Dawan especially was kinda terrible; this might sound mean but I've yet to see a close-to-decent performance from him, and in this film I felt that he had very little chemistry with any of his co-stars. The plot was pretty formulaic, right down to the ending, and almost three hour run-time didn't really help matters, either. However, the costumes and sets were absolutely gorgeous, giving the film an opulent, extravagant aesthetic, and most of the songs were good, too. Overall, I don't think I'm gonna be rewatching Kalank any time soon, but I'd recommend giving it a go if you like grand, historical films.
