I’ve gone on and on about what I think of the works of Ingmar Bergman, one of the greatest directors ever, his influence is still felt on modern cinema to this day, Saraband is a movie of his I don’t feel people talk about enough, watching Scenes From a Marriage for the first time, I didn’t feel, let alone know, that it needed a sequel, but frankly, I think I enjoyed this one more, in my personal opinion, the cut that turned Scenes from a miniseries to a feature film didn’t do it enough justice, the pacing did not feel right, with Saraband it feels much more tight, while keeping a similar style to the original, super Bergman-esque, with a small cast, hard dialogue, and incredible performances, eternal shoutout to Liv Ullmann, my favorite actress of all time, in my opinion, the greatest of all time, this is easily her most subdued performance I’ve seen of her, but just like her on-screen mother Ingrid Bergman, she keeps that mystique and aura to her, inspire of her advanced age, like any good Bergman film, this one feels meta in a way, I believe this is the last film he made before passing away, leaving us with a reminder of life, of loss, of the people that may have gone but remain with us in spirit, incredible filmmaking
