Plot (spoiler-free):
The film picks up basically right where the first one ends. ChromeSkull gets patched back together by this strange, organized group, and inside that group a power struggle starts immediately. One guy tries to take ChromeSkull’s place, the others just move around him without really knowing what they’re doing. You don’t need much more than that, because the story clearly exists only to hold everything together.
What worked for me:
The kills are easily the strongest part of this whole series. Everything is practical, nasty and creative enough to stay fun. The second movie also feels more polished and put together than the first one. The pacing is fine and you get exactly what you expect from a movie like this.
What didn’t work for me:
The story is even thinner than in the first one and feels like a placeholder between the gore moments. I didn’t care about any of the characters at all, which makes some scenes less intense simply because there’s no attachment to anyone. The acting is slightly better than in part one, but still very low-level overall.
Compared to the first film:
The first one feels rougher and more direct, even if it’s less polished. Part two looks cleaner and a bit “bigger,” but loses some of the accidental charm the first one had. In return, the kills in part two are stronger and the whole thing has a bit more structure, even though the plot itself doesn’t really hold up.
Overall:
Laid to Rest 2 is basically a kill movie. If that’s what you’re here for, it works. If you need story, characters or tension, this is absolutely the wrong place. For what it tries to be, it delivers.
