The Task is presented as a horror, but its primary objective is to make the viewer question what is real. This completely negates its already weak horror elements immediately.
So it’s a thriller then? Cause whether this is a game or not it doesn’t make anything that’s happened any scarier, nor create any more suspense. These characters are boring and extremely flat, so we have no reason at all to care about them.
Really the best thing this movie had going for it was its comedy, but it’s very awkwardly placed in the context, which makes it seem like this movie is actually a satire… but it isn’t.
The Task makes several attempts at giving itself an identity, but fails at all of them. None of it is completely atrocious, but all of it together is a total mess. I’ll always put on a movie about people trapped in a building playing games of death, I can’t help myself. This is the price that I pay for that.
