p.s. it’s the first time i watched this movie. but i remember when my aunt said, *“c’mon watch Twisted Nerve if you wanna know about the iconic whistle in the Kill Bill movie and American Horror Story: Murder House series.”
*> “Can Georgie have a book... about animals?”
WOWWW at first glance, this movie might seem like a soft, slow-paced British drama, but oops gone wrong! this movie is so calm and deeply disturbing psychological portrait that slowly unravels with every minute
it follows Martin Durnley (played by Hywel Bennett), a young man with a fractured mind and a dangerous obsession with a sweet ans kind girl named Susan Harper (played by Hayley Mills). Martin pretends to be mentally challenged, adopting the persona of “Georgie” just to get closer to her. but slowly it reveals a much darker and chilling truth
what makes this movie stand out isn’t just its premise, but the atmosphere too! sooo quiet, restrained, yet constantly humming with unease. Bernard Herrmann’s haunting score (YESS we’re talking about that iconic whistle theme!) lingers in your ears long after the movie ends, while the cinematography of 1960s Britain wraps everything in an eerie calm. in love with the color tone of this movie! 😍
the chemistry between Hywel Bennett and Hayley Mills is strangely fascinating. not romantic in the usual sense, but filled with tension, innocence, and manipulation. ngl i’m gonna say that i’m in love with Hywel’s good looking! 🧡
for me, Twisted Nerve isn’t just a psychological thriller, but it’s a study of control, desire, and the fragile line between affection and obsession
