beautiful and intriguing because of the camera work/set design but to me the story falls a little flat. i liked how it kind of played with the perception of reality, with it starting out on stage and then shifting into the story and making it easy to forget that its a show being performed by actors within the movie (woah so meta) before forcibly reminding you of that fact in the final scene.
anna magnani is really easy to fall in love with in this. she wears such beautiful clothing and she seems so intense and eye catching, and then there are those few moments when she looks into the camera and her expression is just so heartbreakingly lonely you just want to die. it feels like you never get a true idea of who she is because shes always playing this “character” of camilla which just feels so incredibly tragic, especially because the whole story revolves around all these men falling in love with her but insisting that she give up the one thing she seems to love (the golden coach)
