It was so uncomfortable and unbearable to watch. The humanity of Sarah Baartman was shown to be stripped away from her for 2 hours and 45 minutes, as well as the humanity of Yahima Torres for being subjected to the film direction for the same duration.
Who even should watch this? No black person would ever watch misery porn, so what’s the purpose of this film? For non black people to see? Then what’s the difference between them and the white people in the film…? For educational purposes? Then it would be all be hypocritical if you were angered by the complete disregard of ethics by the scientists in the film by exploiting Sarah’s body “in the name of science”.
The film and the historical narrative it depicts are both voyeuristic exploitations. This film was recommended for a class. I do not recommend this to anyone.
