richard: people think ghosts are scary, but it would be wonderful if they were real.
*
shelia: let's say, it is a ghost. and that it's her. would you want her around?
richard: i don't know... i mean, sounds sad. sad, for her, i mean.
shelia: and if it's not a ghost?
richard: in some ways that would be easier. but i would still be disappointed.
*
a ghost story. a love story. so often two sides of the same coin.
reminds me of my heart can't beat unless you tell it to, another favourite.

I didn’t really plan on having an emotional night of healing from a random movie, but it feels as if it was meant to be. I had no idea this was set in my hometown until I started watching it.
Love and grief in these mountains is all I have ever known. The beauty of East Tennessee has raised me and I am so grateful to know and behold it as once my own. While watching this, certain shots made me smile because it’s been mine before.
As of this month, I don’t live there anymore — not far away, but not the same. I found myself nearing tears the entire time while watching this. The last ten minutes had me curled up on the edge of my bed crying. Somehow, somewhere, it felt like my own.
It’s been almost 6,000 days since my dad died. I felt him visit for years, in dreams and in voices. There is no end to my grief, but maybe he will visit me again someday.

This is a ghost story but with more than one set.

Honestly blown away by how hard this hit me. It’s so beautifully muted it makes other films feel like incoherent yelling. Marin Ireland is incredible and Jim Gaffigan goes to depths I never suspected he could. See it if you can.
