HEY LOOK I WATCHED THE MOVIE BEFORE I LEFT HOME! (three days before)
ok so i live ~20 minutes from the hoosier gym (where the hickory gym scenes were filmed, look out for the massive billboards on I-70 westbound advertising this), and for some reason i've never watched the flick. after insane pressure from levi and others, i have watched it. i have met the screenwriter of this. i don't know why i haven't.
my favorite part of this is the energy. the film starts with some insanely beautiful shots of autumn-time indiana, in places literally right by my home town, which gave me such an intense feeling of nostalgia and peace it was nearly overwhelming. the feeling of the basketball games is likewise intense. i've attended more than a few high school basketball games in my day (pep band 4 lyfe) and the unique emotions of a dark november friday night cannot be matched otherwise. this is DISTINCTLY hoosier cinema.
other than that, basketball movies aren't really my vibe but i ended up enjoying this more than i expected. i find the politics of the final game interesting: a good-old-fashioned farm town beats an integrated city team in 1951. if i see angelo pizzo around campus, i will need to dicuss this with him.
anyways. no one can bully me for not having watched this anymore. hiii bloomington team! dennis hopper is a national treasure. finally: IN CASE OF RAPTURE BUS WILL HAVE NO DRIVER.
