Once feels like what nostalgia feels like. The main complaint about this film, is one of my favorite parts. The filming it’s super shaky, as if it was filmed on a phone; but that just makes for the feeling like you’re watching a childhood mixtape you’re mother made for you on your wedding day. It makes you feel like home. I really appreciate how there was no bombastic, over the top ending. In typical romance movies, there will be a super dramatic break up ending when the leads can’t be together, but this is so delicate. They are obviously in love with each other, but they also accept the fact that they are simple not meant to be. Their first song together in the piano shop is genuinely one of the best scenes in cinematic history, it conveys such emotion even thought they had just met. Despite not being real actors, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová have some of the best chemistry I’ve ever seen.
