Not very into modern dance prefer more ballet however…..this was pretty good and really sick

Not very into modern dance prefer more ballet however…..this was pretty good and really sick

when i watch a dance movie i do typically prefer a narrative to follow with the dancing if it’s very long — and this was great still — yet i didn’t have much of a throughline. love pina bausch’s work, maybe just in smaller doses. i grew up doing more ballet, jazz, and lyrical styles and this was not in my wheelhouse.

incredibly beautiful, moving full set pieces. i loved the small vignettes in between the interviews and bigger group dances, especially the one with the tap hating dog. icon!

the thing that struck me the most was the overwhelming love everyone had for pina, and that she had for them. it was enough to resurrect the project after wenders cancelled it. it was enough to resurrect pina, if only until the credits roll.
