i have a lot of thoughts, but they all stem from one — this movie feels like fan service from tom cruise to tom cruise, an overly self indulgent love letter to the mission impossible franchise

overly, because it does this at the expense of pacing and plot consistency

tom definitely does know how to make movies

this thing looks good, contains sick environments, cool shots, and fun stunts, but good god does the screenplay need work

dead reckoning was miles better than this — i really dug the direction they initially took on an ai villain and it really didnt pan out here. they overplayed the “what if it wants us to do that” bit, which was already at the end of its rope in part 1

… and on that note, i have to rewatch dead reckoning and decide if i think it was self aware in its indulgence — i really dont think final reckoning was and its making me nervous to revisit part 1 without the rose colored glasses

the back half was legitimately saved by how dog the first half was, my expectations were in the floor after the first 30

I count on the Mission: Impossible movies for some decent, light entertainment. I liked this one but not as much as some other MI movies. The action scenes dragged on too long for me. Admittedly I had high expectations for this last installment. Overall fun to watch though.

Some of the corniest, goofiest shit I’ve ever seen in my life. As an OG mission impossible fan, this franchise has fallen from grace with these last two movies. All the flashbacks did was remind me how good the old movies are, which just pissed me off more. I’m choosing to pretend these last two movies don’t exist.
