I demand more Jenny Slate cameos!
Very charming Sofia Coppola film, about the struggles of middle-age and her relationship with her crazy, wonderful father.
I seriously hope they get Bill Murray his Oscar for this. Rashida and Sofia both have larger-than-life, rich fathers and who says larger-than-life more than Bill Murray? There's quite a bit of Francis Coppola, Murray himself, and I'm assuming Quincy Jones in his character. He is flawed, and his ideas are outdated, but he has so much love for his daughter and his family. There's a great line when Laura is asking about why he cheated on her mom and he says "It was a great tragedy for all of us." I feel this sums up his character well, where he is sympathetic, yet unable to acknowledge his own role.
It was shot beautifully, and makes me want to live in wealthy New York. The convertibles and martinis in nice bars are all I really want. (Is that too much to ask for?)
