Post documentary Ferrara has been interesting to see. There's such a clear shift in his style following his little documentary side quest he did for some years. It actually works quite well for him hear. It's slow and at times mundane and feels about like some of the documentaries he made, feeling so real. However being a fictional movie I think that it's actually more successful than his docs, cause this is still where Ferrara is most skilled. It's a very interesting movie to watch in the context of his filmography. I don't know if I would like it as much watching it by itself. I think I would though

a deep dive into the mind of Tommaso, and past that the director himself Abel Ferrara. Tommaso is a beautifully crafted depiction of the last chapter of a mans life after he threw every other year away, a man hiding his true self behind a thin mask imaging himself as a director trying to move past his mistakes.
I find that in a lot of ways Ferrara's Pasolini is similar to this, almost like a step into the actual film he wanted to make and It feels that he didn't let himself back. Dafoe is practically harmonized with the steps Ferrara helped placed for him, depicting this mess of a man. This film feels very soulful in nature, something I wish I could've experienced theatrically but one that nonetheless I'm happy I get to see.
Dafoe was, insane in this role. He did amazing. 9.5/10 so far.
this review was really good too!!
