Joys of films like Luz is to see what the filmmakers can get away with with such a low budget. To scare and unsettle using the simplest methods yet Luz is also admirably ambitious in its storytelling, trying to create this seedy psychodrama with a abstract structure that descent into unadulterated surrealism that sadly only feels muddled by the limitations the film has to operate in. Doesn’t help that it does take itself a little too seriously with the hypnotic atmosphere, I just wish it embraces its flights of campiness just a bit more because admittedly the premise of a demon chasing for her love who does not wanna be sounds cute and hectic as hell and if delivered correctly with enough sincerity could have resulted in something more special and memorable then Luz ends up being. I did enjoy this, as an exercise in low budget horror it is interesting to a fault and promising aesthetically, theres also themes of gender swapping and queerness that of course appeals to me but its a work that can and only allows itself to go so far before reducing itself into a ultimately creative if middling experience. A good horror film to put you to bed.
