The Last Horror Film

so i was on my annual scavenging of new 1980s slashers for me to sit through and watch and i came across this one that caught my attention by just the synopsis itself because it was one that i found to be interesting and also one that i haven’t been seen to be done except for one other time but as for this one i will say that it was a decently made film with your usual cast of victims that you’re supposed to ‘care’ about for the remainder of the film but the only one i was really even interested in was the main girl because she absolutely stunning and each of her outfits in this film were so reminiscent of the 1980s and that’s one of the things that i lover when it came to that time period like the fashion was to die for and since this one was a ‘slasher’ film let’s move onto the ‘kills’ of this film and i’ve got to say that even though they weren’t really creative ones or ones we’ve haven’t seen been done before that i will say that the way they were shot was what made me like them a whole lot more and as for the ending of this film i’ve got to say that it made me deduct a star on my rating for this one because even though i still liked this one you’re gonna tell me that of the ‘killings’ in this film weren’t even real but rather us the audience were watching a film inside of another film and that the ‘creep’ we see following the main girl around the whole film is rather the director and it shows us that we were just watching his last horror film that he shot hence the title of the film and let’s just say i was not vibing with that ending because i would have rather loved it being all real instead of the whole film inside of a film plotline but it’s whatever.

with the cool looking cover and the title of ‘the last horror film’ obviously i was intrigued.. and honestly it was better than what i was expecting. 
i’ve read a lot about this film, and apparently this was supposed to be a sequel of the film maniac? i don’t know how true that is considering i haven’t watched maniac but this is a completely fine as a stand-alone film. the performances from the cast felt good, and not wooden (like majority of slashers from the 80s) the cast clearly have experience with acting before hand. this is one of the earliest cases of surrealist or meta horror, being a film within the film : the characters are creating a horror film except they’re in the film! very similar to effects with that concept except a tiny bit more polished looking, but yeah this concept should really be utilised more within horror. this film is a raw, grindhouse slasher flick which really should get more praise? 6k watches? damn this is a real hidden gem which every slasher fan should see atleast once. it’s got a weird plot, and odd humour which to me, helps its case. one problem is there’s not enough blood, i was just excepting more in that department : the comedies great but it really could’ve benefited having both. it has an unfocused, messy narrative and this film fails in traditional factors : but it’s still a solid horror with an amazing concept.
