Roy Andersson you are a master of your craft and I’m sorry it took me so long to find you. I’ve said this in both of my reviews for the others in the trilogy but my God does he have a knack for making his films feel like a living painting. Everything is so mundane yet so painfully gorgeous.
A truly surreal, dark comedy that deeply explores everything about humanity. The little absurdities of life, the bleakness of life itself and that sort of misery we all share with one another. Yet he still manages to sprinkle some glimmers of beauty.
This concludes my watching of the ‘living’ trilogy, albeit I watched it in a strange order. I’m so glad I got to experience this, a trilogy that looks at the bleakness of human existence but yet it still gives me more reasons to love life. Here’s to you Mr Andersson.
Forgive those who only think of themselves. Forgive those who are greedy and cheap. And those who deceive and cheat or grow rich by paying miserable wages. Dear lord, forgive them.
