It's kind of obnoxious hearing all the praise for this film because the director is very young (19 and he already has a movie on Netflix). I was skeptical when I sat down to watch it and while there are things to praise, there are more things to criticize. I don't like the cinematography, specifically the footage that was clearly shot on a steadicam but was not at all steady. The editing also wasn't anything unique (as most of the footage didn't even look color graded) but I will admit that the actors are pretty good, and the director has some unique ideas on display here (there are shots and moments in here that really showcase his talent) but I really don't think it's very deserving of all the hype.
Also, it's hard (for me) to be impressed with this film when the producers have already been established in Hollywood (Benh Zeitlin, Wendell Pierce, etc...).
