I enjoyed the majority of this movie up until the ending. I felt like the majority of the movie spent time trying to make you think “who is doing this and how are they going to stop them” whereas the ending shifted to “this could happen to anyone anywhere”. This is a valid artistic choice but it doesn’t provide the resolution and satisfaction that I personally enjoy.

The build-up is too lengthy and the pace too slow. And when it finally gets going, there’s unfortunately hardly any pay-off.

When films try to be two things, they seldomly succeed when those elements are not blended throughout. It seemingly goes from exploring the interpersonal dynamics of its central characters, to a slasher flick I’m not invested in. There’s thematically, relevant moments to pull out regarding anxieties of voyeurism amongst the 2 couples, but everything in its conclusion rips that away to a shoulder shrug.

The actors are innocent and Franco has promising, directorial instincts in creating a dreadful atmosphere but when a script is bad, nowhere to go but down.
