i love brian wilson and he deserves a much better documentary than this. there is something good in here but it is buried by heaps of exploration and a messy structure. i tried to be optimistic but once they did that scene of his fathers insults as VO playing over him as to show his auditory hallucinations??? BLECHHH ew!!! that was SO bad and distasteful and made me really sad. seeing that brian does seem to appreciate and like being around jason, i hope that this all just fell apart in the edit, because i really hope jason’s motives aren’t reflected in what i watched here. i get that most of the budget and care went into the interviews but ffs i would’ve edited this for free and maybe idk at least put his stories in chronological order???

A little bit too much standard fare puff piece documentary biography/talking heads included, especially in the first half, but also some really great moments and a respectful tribute to the greatest pop composer to ever live. Honestly would have preferred it to just the be scenes with Brian and Jason hanging out and driving around
