Ever since they announced 'Fear Street: Prom Queen' was dropping on May 23rd, I decided to go back and rewatch this awesome trilogy. The first movie, Fear Street 1994, is a bloody, quick-paced shoutout to '90s slasher films with a supernatural twist, and it’s way more fun than it has any right to be. I love how this movie mixes that nostalgic Scream-style teen horror with a cool mystery that hints at a deeper story going back centuries. Not only is the cast amazing in this, The characters feel real and are nicely diverse, plus the film doesn’t hold back on the emotional stuff—especially with the history between Deena and Sam.
What I enjoy most is how it balances brutal kills and a creepy vibe with a self-aware tone that never goes overboard. The music hits hard if you're into '90s tunes, and the pacing keeps you hooked, pulling you into a story that’s as much about cursed history as it is about surviving the night. It’s AWESOME, bloody, and confidently sets up the rest of the trilogy. Also, I’m probably really late to this realization, but I never knew R.L. Stine created this series. Honestly, I don’t know what I was thinking or how I completely missed that information, but it all makes sense now. The whole time I was watching, I thought to myself that this really feels like a Rated R version of Goosebumps.
Overall, Fear Street 1994 is just a super fun time. It’s got the gore, the mystery, a killer soundtrack, and characters you really care about. It’s the kind of horror movie that feels comfortably familiar but still manages to surprise you. If you’re into slashers with a twist and a bit of heart, this one’s totally worth checking out.
