The Rain People

This movie starts out super slow but also gets right into the meat of the story which can be a really wonderfully disorienting combination. The silent flashback montage moments for each of the characters are so powerful, especially when we get to the climax. I think Natalie's habit of referring to herself in the third person when people refer to her as a wife or mother is really interesting, and shows how disconnected she is from traditional gender roles. Not only disconnected, but unable to understand her place in the world as a woman outside of those gender roles, and only knowing that she doesn't identify with them.

I close my eyes and I can see the days I was happy, I know you can do the same. I can see it on your face. Your pain, your happiness. We are all aligned on the same string. Let’s straighten out together. The beautiful aching tether of the human experience. When I close my eyes I see those better days we long for. We are all drips washing away on the windshield, hold my hand before we split.
