So, the movie is wayyyyuy more convoluted and overstuffed with characters that actively make the movie a slog to get through in the middle section. The movie needed to focus more on hung, who is pretty much the only engaging character in the movie. Also what was the point of the train? Nothing happens on it!
But! That last 20 minutes of action is outstanding, and whenever hung is on screen, it is enjoyable. There were even a couple of legitimately funny gags throughout. Loved the speech about respecting the sex workers.

This is basically Cannonball Run but done tremendously better. Literally everything is done better. From the perspective of the main character to different side stories, everything is all planned out better. I know I’ve said ‘better’ many times but it is.

Definitely inspired by Cannonball Run. Although it’s better that doesn’t mean , a lot of it is great. The different perspectives of side stories that get showcased could get lost and feel discombobulated in the story. There’s some humor that hits on and off and I’m mainly talking about the man that’s having an affair, many moments where it feels like useless comedy.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I wish this film focused more on the action sequences than the actual story. This was more a comedy heavy film than a martial arts film and that’s why I feel like it’s weighed down. The climax of this film was fucking fantastic where all of the characters seen band together to fight the out of nowhere enemies. The fight scenes are actually well crafted with great editing and perfect choreography. I wish I had more Yukari Oshima, she was such a bad ass.
