documentarian erotica with aggrandization that borders on revisionism... skimming over the nazi imagery and not just highlighting the racism allegations, but countering them with a random story not even from tom, was certainly a choice. while that all certainly takes away from this viewing experience and sours it some, this film is still quite wonderful. the whirring camera and hypnotic chants that lull you into a daze, while the beat blares and forces your own bpm to quicken - it all culminates in an undeniably erotic viewing experience, and interjected with the harsh coldness of tom's speech, it certainly works as a structural transfiguring of his work. the nudity straddled the line between matter of fact and pornographic, which really does capture that essence of the sexualised blue-collar masculinity: self-assured, rough, and (most of all) effortless. so, the form? 10/10, but some of the content just wasnt all that agreeable, and, in terms of documenting tom of finland, i dont really feel this does as good a job as it couldve.
