Always fun to see something that is so well crafted that it kind of takes you aback. Not to degrade its time- but this feels ahead of it. Exciting to feel like you are watching visual innovation happen in real time. I love silent films that have a big heart, too.
The ending is really fascinating to me; obviously it wouldn’t be the way it is without an outside force interfering, but it kind of creates a weird like meta textual vibe that I don’t know if I’ve seen anywhere else. It’s obviously supposed to be the “real” ending, but I don’t read it that way. It feels like the true ending was just so painful that the universe literally had to step in and fabricate something to cope with it. Obviously that is kind of the case in reality, but in terms of the story it’s just such a fascinating thing. Sometimes challenge and working in a box can create creative work arounds that never would have even been conceived of before, I suppose. The passive aggression that bleeds through the title card did make me chuckle, though.
