In some ways the best Bratz movie and also the worst. This was my favourite one growing up and rewatching it I understand why. Compared to other films in the franchise this one’s a lot darker, both tonally and visually. In the human world it’s dark and desaturated, which contrasts against the bright colours of the fairy world scenes and magic, but the magic scenes are few and far between so the overall vibe of the movie ends up up quite dreary. All the Bratz films have an absurdist surrealist quality but this one has some of the strangest imagery, genuinely it’s kind of lynchian. There’s also a pretty good mix of cgi animation with illustrated backgrounds for the forest scenes that blend pretty well and hide the technical limitations.
Voice acting is ehh. this is a completely different cast than the earlier movies and tv series, allegedly it has something to do with not being able to pay previous cast and the writers strike. Notably this cast is entirely Canadian, while the previous casts are mostly American.
Also Ashleigh Ball is Sasha and it’s not good.
