After watching Twinless, I sprinted to watch James Sweeney's directorial debut from 2019. He is 2 for 2 and one of my new favorite directors.
I love that you can see the choices and themes Sweeney introduced in this film fleshed out and tuned up in Twinless. That's not to say this isn't a STRONG film.
First of all, while the dialogue and scriptwriting is the obvious strong suit of Sweeney's repertoire, his directorial choices visually are extremely impressive.
This shot in 4.3 and wide lens with popping color almost presents the story like a 1940s rom com, and yet the content and script is unlike any normal romcom.
HEAVY HEAVY "inspired by Wes Anderson" in this film visually, which I will always love.
I really like Sweeney's take on love, belonging, companionship and our idea of those things/how we're put into a box.
