the long walk takes a very simple sci fi twist on our reality, doesnt explain shit else outside of that tiny sliver of worldbuilding, and builds a surprisingly heartfelt story within the tight box it puts itself in

the story itself is pretty unremarkable, but — as the absolute lad peter mcvries posits early on — you find yourself so attentively waiting for the next moment. life isn’t a 100 year walk, or a 10,000 mile walk, it’s a walk from one moment to the next. moments are never too far away that you can’t make it to just one more

and those moments? they hit!! bromantic dialogue, wide angles of the marshy, desolate american south, the droning synth ambient soundtrack (are you kidding me??? @liamnolan), and definitely one of the bigger tear jerker moments of my watches this year as you approach the climax. they even slip in some cute philosophical and social commentary to make the whole piece feel a little more rounded, and i did not mind it at all

again — for how boneheadedly simple this premise is (i knew nothing about this movie beforehand), i am shocked for how much the story gripped me. i guess i have to read some stephen king!! impressive!

(on that note there def some YA moments in this one, they didnt take me out of it but they definitely pulled a couple eye rolls from me last night)

this looks like one of those concept movies.

the kind that are easy to describe with one marketable sentence but always lack substance and fail to deliver.

this is not one of those movies.

i found the movie growing steadily on me as I watched it. sure, it is indeed made to be accessible. sure, its not the type of artistic movie you need to pay close attention at to understand. but what slowly envelopes you as the movie goes on is a peek at human spirit. its not about the walk, because it wouldn’t be anything worth watching if it was.

its about these characters, and how they come to support (or hate each other) throughout the journey. you feel for them, and you’re envious of the friendships you get to see. the pureness of a relationship they all know will be short lived. brought together by a single goal only one of them will reach. and still helping each other out when it’s technically a free for all. normally when movies try to build relationships quickly it doesn’t work. you don’t believe for a second character A cares about character B after only a few days of knowing them. but you get to see them risk their lives again and again for each other and they manage it to feel genuine and impactful. i didn’t find myself questioning the authenticity of the relationships and thats rare.

David Jonsson who plays Pete is fantastic. I don’t think this movie has much rewatchablity, but there is a world where I do just to get to see his performance again.

This is a sleeper movie and I kinda love that. It’s a genuinely well written and acted story, disguised as hollywood slop.

Also the soundtrack is superb and i think it will haunt me for days as i listen to it.

One of the better movies that show brotherhood in the darkest of situations. Truly masterful performances by the cast to fully pull you into their minds and feel every emotion they feel.

Yeah there’s a lot of walking, but it’s a pretty dang good movie. Obviously this film is them walking and talking so the majority of what we have here is these musketeers talking to keep each other sane and alive. It’s pretty thought out when it comes to dialogue, it’s not super over the top, it’s just a bunch of boys joking, passing stories and talking about what they would do with the prize. The soundtrack really did tie it all together well as they death march through hillbillyville, USA, eerie yet somber soundtrack, it’s a subtle score but really well done. Very emotional throughout the film, the Asian guys death hit super hard but they did really good with a lot of the characters deaths. It does hurt a bit to watch. My main complaint about this film is that the two main characters never really seem like they are suffering or tired or anything throughout the majority of the film like you’d be seeing some crazy shit if you walked that long but they’re just trudging on like it’s a walk in the park. They definitely should have added a bit more personal trials for those two because they almost felt invincible throughout the majority of it. I also wish we knew more about the dystopian world around the long walk like who did this become a thing, who is the major, why were there random things on fire, shit like that. It’s a little random at time when it comes to the world around the walk. My last kind of complaint is I wish they did elaborate more on what happened to the winner at the very end. I’m avoiding spoilers but if you know, you know. I still think it’s a great movie showing how you can make a meaningful friendship in the darkest places and to always see the bright side like #23. It’s a very good movie, I’ll probably watch it again.

I honestly can make an entire essay on how this film just hit me but one word to describe it is POWERFUL. Such an heartbreaking film full of laughs, agony, despair an genuine anger at certain points from us and from the characters. i didn’t know what to expect going into this but they shattered my expectations. THE 4 MUSKETEERS OMGGGG😔😔😔 i love them all with every bone in my body, heartbreaking backstories mixed in with genuine kind hearted people searching for something outta the shit circumstances they was in. FUCK THE MAJOR AND FUCK THE LONG WALK!!!
So much in undercover messaging in a lot of the ideologies between these characters and I LOVED the ending message and how both Peter and Ray impacted each others world view in such a short time. David Jonsson( Peter) there isn’t much else i can say about you other than BRILLIANT. He was exceptional in every min he was on screen and his character was such a great human being. I loved this film and I HIGHLY recommend giving it a shot. I don’t think my rating does this movie justice that’s how good it is.
