I totally haven’t seen the anime or read the manga but this l felt stand alone enough to watch without total confusion.
In the prelude with meet Isabella York, a young woman of royal lineage, who has lived most of her life in poverty but once identified by authorities is shipped off to a ladies school where she can make her grand debut in society as a Princess. But she needs a little help in the aids and graces department, which is where Violet comes into play, an auto memory doll (with a cool Luke Skywalker robot arm) employed to school Isabella on the proper etiquette of being a lady.
The later part, and bulk of the run time, focuses on Isabella’s adopted sister Taylor, who cashes in a favour from her sister to be taken under the wing of Isabella and join the postal service, learn to read and write and one day achieve her goal of being reunited with her royal elder sibling, via way of writing her a letter.
The story is a little slight, but it relies more on emotional resonance that actual plot mechanics, resonance that felt just a liiiiitle too twee for me.
But hey - it looks gorgeous!
