I’m not sure whether I missed something, but I genuinely don’t understand how people think this film “humanises” hitler. He is portrayed as relentlessly cruel even to the point of condemning his own people as weak and deserving of destruction out of sheer spite. That doesn’t feel like humanisation; if anything, it exposes the extent of his moral decay. And it’s not like the others gain any sympathy either. If anything, they come off as pathetic and deeply disturbed. Watching them justify killing civilians and calling them traitors doesn’t create empathy. Depicting someone as human is not the same as justifying them. In fact, it often has the opposite effect, making their actions feel even more disturbing
Also, as someone who doesn’t usually watch or enjoy historical films, I can still say this is a very well-made movie.
