this movie is so strange. for some reason I always thought this was about vampires or something. little did I know it's a romantic comedy about my favorite subject stigmata!

Tom arnold gets before the title billing. Skeet Ulrich masterclass. I actually think Schrader does a good job of capturing the tone of Elmore leonard even if this feels all over the place at times. If this is an example of his "floor" as a director he's a god among men. they literally move to des moines at the end of this lmao

Christopher Walken when he was still a leading man (and he's unsurprisingly great in the part of a half-sincere half-retired religious huckster)
Skeet Ulrich primed for stardom hot off of Scream (he's so good here, it's a real shame he almost immediately found himself trapped in the world of bad television)
Tom Arnold when he was still a go-to comic relief support (did he lose it or did H-wood just abruptly forget how to utilize him? He's also perfectly typecast here as a Catholic fundamentalist dope)
Gina Gershon playing a role as genuinely dislikable in a way few actors dare to
LL Cool J liberating us girls from male white corporate oppression
A goofy dogshit rock score from worst Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl (someone burn this man's guitars already, we have suffered enough)
