This is my third time watching this film....
The first time , I loved it but I was also going through it and was drunk on wine...so I thought it was great.
Watching it sober though...yikes.
I haven't been wanting to make this review because I genuinely want to like this film...but Lucy was so insufferable. I really wanted to give her a chance but my god...how can you make one your leads this annoying and this dense that she has no concept of boundaries whatsoever. Just inserts herself and her gallery into someone else's vision and didn't take no for an answer when it was clear he didn't want it.
Not to mention, the climactic "breakup" that happens in every romcom was just a misunderstanding because she yaps so fucking much that she just assumed he named the hotel after his grandma and he didn't have time to correct her because that was the narrative she went with.
It's one of my biggest pet peeves troupes- "miscommunication and misunderstandings" that makes the leads resent each other. If this was executed differently, probably wouldn't hate it as much.
Very sad too because I love Geraldine and think she's fantastic but man...this script makes me wanna bang my head to a wall.
Dacre and Geraldine did their best. And Dacre knocks it out with every performance. This one was no different. He was great. But didn't have much to work with either. I mean I can't expect much. This is a rom-com....
That being said...am I going to watch it again?
Leave me alone, I probably will.
