"but it is not easy to be a body. first, as a child, i thought it was a bad thing to be born a woman, because that body clearly limited your liberties. it's very complicated. i think that a woman already grows up with abuse, and then it becomes unbearable, doesn't it?"

*

lots to say, not the place to talk about it. i thank god i am a woman. despite it all, despite everything, i would choose to be born a woman (and a lesbian) over and over and over and over again in every lifetime.

adding it to my on: radical feminism list.

“I realize that people see a fat body as a transitory body.”

Mama that burn 😔

This short documentary is magnificent. It shows five women of different ages, sexual orientations, bodies and gender identities. How much more diverse can it be? Lmao. With these five women, I'm sure any woman can identify with at least one of them.

Also, beautiful animation

Besides the striking animation, one thing that resonated with me here especially and personally, for me now after the 2 hours had passed then sitting down to watch this is how much the mother plays a role in the first 2 stories of this short but arresting film. Sometimes I see my mother’s expectations of me, my body, what kind of woman am supposed to be not evil but something from a evil place, it isn’t until today that I learn to the fullest extent that yeah it was from grandmother and from her mother and from her her her her mother until finally it collapses, how one sees themselves, how? It’s obvious but sometimes it’s like forgetting what you look like once the mirror had faded into the walls.
Red as a color has always been associated and symbolizes love or violence and Flesh uses it knowingly, while using these old animation tricks (stop motion, drawing on celluloid, traditional hand drawn) to create that sense of lineage, that this is a echo for all women, from all cultures, sex, race, types, blood is violent, blood is change but blood is life and family. I feel like when people see me and my skin, men specifically they don’t see me, they see what they’ve been taught about me, what they’ve internalized and been cultured into and sadly as a trans woman that is still something am dealing with specifically with how I view myself. This captures that feeling perfectly, the style at once smooth but disruptive, flowing but jarring.
To express love especially to a child for some people is the hardest thing, to separate the love of a mother to a love for another human being is something to learn, when I came out to my mom it took her a while before she said “I’m beginning to love you not just as my daughter but as another person” it was almost shocking to hear that, it moved me but I also sense guilt in her voice for all she’s done up to that point and what she still does sometimes out of instinct, out of what was beaten into her, those are times I do not know who am seeing, when her words rings distant as if from someone else, I know she cares for me but it’s what she or one cares about that scares me, what I will care about in the future. I miss her, not as a mother but as a human being, that is the truth, not because I fall out of love with mother or that she failed me no, today in a while I just didn’t talk to mom, I talked to her, I didn’t see her face, she is far away but I hear her closest yet. This help me vision her, and I miss her so much.
