Kind of similar to Black Christmas (2019) although this handles the toxic masculinity topic much better, in my opinion. Pure doesn’t get in over its head by trying to tackle too many things at once.
I still think the effects and supernatural elements used in both films are kind of stupid and take away from the emotional throughline of the story. The reality of father-daughter purity retreats is scary enough without those bad snapchat-filter looking smiles and black eyes and goo dripping from the mouths of the bad guys. It’s just a little… much. Solid for one of these Hulu Into the Dark films though! One of the better ones.
