Far from perfect, but intense and damn entertaining, The Last Duel delivers the intensity that Ridley Scott was shooting for. His late-career messy directing is noticeable here, but with an intriguing script and a captivating Jodi Comer performance, The Last Duel really shines. Borrowing its structure from Rashomon, revisiting the same story from different perspectives allows you to identify with different characters, and have an evolving sense of who the villain is before revealing the truth.

The Last Duel brilliantly captures the atmosphere of the Middle Ages: the costumes, sets and overall visual style literally immerse the viewer in the era. The film is a feast for the eyes with its beautiful and meticulously crafted visuals, whilst the tense final duel keeps you on the edge of your seat right until the very end.

I’d particularly like to highlight the interesting narrative technique of telling the same story from different perspectives. Thanks to this, the plot feels fresh and engaging, and the characters are explored in much greater depth.

Overall, the film left a very positive impression. I would definitely recommend it to fans of medieval themes, high-quality visuals and gripping storytelling!
