A solid enough drama that we have seen the trajectory of before. Luckily, the actors are compelling in their own right and the way that the film ends is a bitter pill to swallow in regards to not giving up the fight. Change may not come easily or even right away, but it takes just the people to keep fighting the fight

An equally delightful follow-up to WADJHA, Haifaa Al-Mansour continues to operate with a feminist focused within Saudi Arabian society. While THE PERFECT CANDIDATE doesn’t exactly push boundaries, it does offer a wondorous glimpse into the struggles of the average, educated Saudi woman; that despite social progress, there are limits and constraints due to societal constructs. The final minutes of the film will move you, but likely not linger beyond that.

After Mary Shelley I was looking forward to seeing what Haifaa al-Mansour did next. This is certainly enjoyable enough and shows some progress that the country has made towards women’s rights, however by being sanctioned by the Saudi Arabian government there isn’t much bite or criticism towards the other issues featured in this film.
