Near the end of World War II, the survivors of a torpedoed hospital ship cling to life aboard a crowded lifeboat. With no food, water, or shelter, all seems lost – until an eerily silent German minesweeper drifts ominously towards them, giving them one last chance at survival. As our motley crew explores the ship, it becomes all too clear that some diabolical fate has befallen its German crew. The mystery only deepens when they encounter a young Romanian girl, apparently the sole survivor, who leads them to a locked room in the bowels of the vessel.

Blood Vessel
I wanted this to be another Dead Snow or Iron Sky, but it wanted to be something a bit more serious and as I was geared up for a fun slaying of dead nazis I just didn’t engage with it’s smarter approach to being a B-movie.

Maybe if you go in with this in mind, you’ll have a good time with it.

Premise was good but poorly executed and when it finally hit it’s stride it was already winding down to the end.

Some bizarre post production choices too and unsure why the rating was so high for a rather tame movie.

Throw The Thing, Alien, and Dracula into a blender. There are faults - namely with the actors doing bad accents - but it's otherwise a fucking great little slice of cheese. Regret I didn't watch it sooner.

Man this movie is so so close to being great. It’s good but it languishes too long in its first two acts making it almost 50 minutes before we see any vampire action in this 90 minute movie. It’s a shame because the strigo they’ve created here are terrifying in both design and power. The costuming and effects here are top notch for its budget, there are some great performances and genuinely terrifying moments. Just wish the pacing was better.

Subverting a cliché-heavy genre template requires a tricky balancing act: the setup needs to look conventional, but if it's too conventional, the audience may fall asleep before the twist kicks in. Despite some decent (if familiar) work from the makeup, prosthetics, and special effects teams, the slack pacing and lack of any real innovation in 'Blood Vessel' means the end result is disappointingly lifeless.

Cool title, though.
