Well, Terry O’Quinn isn’t returning, so what are our options? Get someone who looks close enough to him? Just focus on another psycho stepfather? Oh, no. They’re just gonna have Jerry go to the most advanced plastic surgeon ever, not only can change his looks to make him look younger, but changes his voice as well! Jesus, why was that guy doing illegal back alley sessions? He should have been working in frickin’ Hollywood!
This movie was made for TV, and boy does it show. Sometimes that does have its charm, especially 80s and 90s, and this does surprisingly have some bloody enough kills for made for tv. But also it is the longest entry in the series and the extra 20 minutes just feels unnecessary. After a while it just feels more beat for beat with the last two movies, the only thing new that was introduced was the stepfather having another family, and that almost felt kinda pointless after a while. At least they went back to the kid doing the investigation, something that was missing in the last one.
A few other positives, well I guess Wightman does a decent job, wasn’t gonna top O’Quinn’s performance but it’s passable. I also liked the priest and he had good chemistry with the main kid. But overall, it’s a weak sequel, at least they knew it had to end here and since stabbing Jerry in the heart never worked a woodchipper should do the trick.
