Imagine a really good director made a movie for 50 million dollars with Song Kang Ho and Lee Byung-Hun but the script was written by a 10 year old, and you're pretty close to this experience.
While the first half was quite enjoyable, and I liked the setup, ultimately the plot holes kept piling up to a distracting degree and I was unable to overlook some crucial ones.
Starting out with the traditional disaster film format, I was getting Train to Busan vibes. You're getting to know the people who are about to go on this flight, knowing that shit is about to go down. It's a great use of tension. As this progressed into the actual disaster, there were some incredible sequences that I'm so glad I got to experience in the theater with the crew!
However, there are massive leaps taken in the decision making of both the characters and institutions near the end that I genuinely tried to look past, but there was an avalanche of distracting details that were fundamental to the way things played out.
Great performances as well, but ultimately I don't see this having much impact past a possible top 10 appearance on Netflix. It's easy to throw on if you want something exciting but it's flaws are difficult to overlook.
