lot of people really don’t like this film, say it’s a performative attempt at feminism directed by a old man who sexualised teenage girls… and yeah, that’s all true. but it’s also a fucking belter of a film. the leads are all incredible, the lesbian storyline had me genuinely doing a lap around the house, the dialogue was so satisfying as was rebellion of the girls. i really, really loved it, reminded me a lot of watching the inbetweeners growing up but instead of feeling like the butt of the joke or like i’m on the outside looking in, i giggled along and related to a lot of it. the ending was so bittersweet, it near enough brought a tear to my eye. it’s a strange kind of satisfying when you’re confronted with the reality of life, especially growing up lower class and in a run-down town (albeit, not one in the scottish highlands). easily one of my new top five.
