Yeah, I still have several issues with this movie, the same as I had on my previous watch, mostly regarding underdeveloped characters and the abrupt tonal switch up in the second act, but I still believe that this movie is vastly overhated. Also I see a lot of reviews saying this movie is exploitative, and while there are several rough scenes, they do not linger longer than they should. The first 10 minutes are probably the hardest bits of the movie to watch, and having to skip them is totally understandable, but I don’t think it goes further beyond what many other critically acclaimed films of this sort have gone. And sure, stories like this have been done before, and better, but that doesn’t mean we should flat out disregard the filmmakers’ take on this kind of story.
I will also add that the last 5 minutes are fucking mesmerizing. And the buildup to those last few minutes is what motivated me to watch the whole thing again.
