Bleak & harrowing - Asphalt City takes it to 100 and never lets off the gas. A marathon of a miserable film, I loved the spotlight on this small EMS team with Tye Sheridan doing his best work, Sean Penn chewing up every scene, and Mike Tyson somehow selling the soft spoken man keeping it all together. Who deserves to live or die and who deserves to make those decisions? How much can you stare directly into the darkness before it takes you completely? This job is impossible, and will very ultimately take you past the point of no return - but somebody has to do it. Rare to see something so raw on screen these days.
