ugh this pissed me off so bad because a supernatural wolf hunt in pre-revolution france sounds like exactly my movie but this was genuinely bad. i guess i expected it to be more of a horror movie than an action movie but holy shit. unfortunately this suffers from being made in 2001, so the editing and writing are genuinely deranged. maybe my experience with the film was tainted because i watched it on a plane and took a nap in the middle, but wow! can we take a critical lens to the magical native trope? instead of just having a native american guy who can mystically commune with the forest or whatever? can we have a woman who's defined by something other than how hot she is to one or more of the male characters? can we have a character with depth and backstory and lore? PLEASE? i was expecting ravenous. go watch ravenous. also — 2.5 hours??? ridiculous. this should have been 90 minutes. and could have been frankly, get me in the editing room

...and realizing now i mixed this up with "the company of wolves" and downloaded it hoping it would be that. movie still blows

took out the bloodborne swag right at the 5 minute mark and to me that was unforgivable. 
usually I like too many eggs in one basket but I think it maybe the tone just wasn’t for me.

this film somehow throws martial arts, period drama, monster horror, and conspiracy thriller into a blender and somehow keeps it watchable. i loved the ambition and the style, even if it gets a bit overstuffed. it also tends to drag at bits, but the undeniable amounts of sauce in this film make it a fun watch.
