You're so hemophobic, Michael.I haven't laughed this hard at genital mutilation since John Waters' 'Desperate Living'. That scene is so conceptually hilarious, and the execution is absolutely perfect. Even if I completely despised this movie, that scene would be worth the price of admission.
My friend recommended this little zombie movie to another friend and me. Admittedly, when it started, I was a little apprehensive, but then the penis scene happened, and I dropped any seriousness to enjoy the ride. This is a solid zombie comedy with incredible gore effects and scenarios that throw the characters into some hilarious situations. This partially reminded me of Peter Jackson's 'Braindead'/'Dead Alive' with how wild it could get (obviously not to the same extreme as that movie). There are some fun, one-note characters in this. The relationship between the leads wasn't deep, but it was fun enough for audience connection. Also, I didn't realize that rapey supporting males are a staple of zombie movies.
It isn't deep, and it isn't trying to be. As an extremely gory, stupid, and funny movie, it completely works. I don't see this having the same rewatch factor as movies like 'Braindead'/'Dead Alive', '28 Days Later', or 'Shaun of the Dead', but it is worth watching.
