A down-and-out Brooklyn detective is hired to track down a singer on an odyssey that will take him through the desperate streets of Harlem, the smoke-filled jazz clubs of New Orleans, and the swamps of Louisiana and its seedy underworld of voodoo.

No one does sweaty and on the verge of mania like Rourke. Great New Orleans movie.

De Niro plays his role really well. Him being Lucifer was pretty obvious, while instead the other twist caught me off guard, especially the whole thing with the girl (his daughter) reminded me of another movie (I won’t say which to avoid spoilers, but if you know, you know). The elevator, descending throughout the film, bringing him down to hell is a great metaphor and probably my favorite part symbolically. I wasn’t flabbergasted, but I really liked the vibe and atmosphere of the movie. I got a thing about chickens!

Someone please cut his nails pleaseee!! I really enjoyed it although the plot twist and the effects at the end make it to be something stupid and funny (I first watched mickey rourke in the wrestler and i hadn't the slightest idea who the protagonist was until i read the crew)
