So imagine Like Mike, but it’s WWE (except the wrestling isn’t scripted, and the magical item isn’t from a legendary icon). But one aspect that makes the shoes from Like Mike work is that they’re used for playing basketball, the mask on the otherhand just makes the main character into a superhero… wtf??
I think as a movie, it’s watchable and whatever. But I can’t see my 9yr old self, who was really into wrestling, actually liking this film. I would’ve critiqued this film for its unrealistic aspects, and its authenticity for wrestling (like surely bringing in a lasso should count as a DQ).
Here’s a cool idea, what if Keith Lee’s character, Smooth Operator, was the one that greesed up Leo’s shoes - a heel turn in the movie would’ve been epic.
The plot about the mum didn’t connect very well. I honestly thought that she was dead, and that’s why the dad was depressed (couldn’t tell if the actor was acting, or he was depressed to be in this film lol). But it turns out that the mum was alive, but Leo’s grandma from his mum’s side is living with them (kinda weird but ok).
Obviously because it’s a WWE film that means they can bring in their own superstars. So weird to see Keith Lee being treated better in this film than he was in the WWE (and maybe including AEW).
