Loved the raw and lingering scenes in this, a real slow gut punch depicting a broken system. The flashbacks were hit or miss for me but the script and the two leads made up for it.

While Test Pattern doesn’t tread any new ground, it does sensitively highlight some of the many uphill battles a person who has been sexually assaulted may face. I particularly appreciated the emphasis on inner conflict about how to process what occurred. Loved ones are often the reason a sex assault is reported in the first place, meanwhile the actual trauma is inadvertently overlooked by those trying desperately to pursue justice.

I watched this because it was nominated for Best First Feature at the Spirits and realized that this should be on everyone’s list for Best First Feature or Breakout Director or whatever. A powerful movie that has a few first feature related flaws, but is still really good.
